Since 2000, Legs for Literacy has grown into the largest running event in New Brunswick!

Mark October 27th on your calendars for the 2013 Legs for Literacy event. Last year was our biggest and best event to date with Mother Nature providing us with perfect race day conditions. Thanks to the support of our sponsors and participants, we donated $55,000 to local literacy initiatives in 2012! Our 2013 planning has already begun so stay tuned for updates over the coming months at www.legsforliteracy.com or on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/LegsforLiteracyCourirPourLire.

Once again we will feature four races- 5k, 10k, half and full marathons. Based on runner feedback, runners really enjoy our route: we plan some minor adjustments that will be designed to make it even better. We will also have a Youth Athletic Event on race weekend.  This year it will take place at the Stade Moncton Stadium! Encourage your children to take part.

Did you know - Our course is a Boston Qualifier (certified course NB-2011-082-BDC) and half marathon times can be used for qualification at the New York City Marathon!

News -  Legs for Literacy 2013

  • June 16, 2013 - The Legs for Literacy Marathon and the Emera Marathon by the Sea are pleased to announce the addition of the Fredericton Fall Classic as another option to obtain the Fredericton component of the medal. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Tri-City run idea, the May Fredericton Marathon sold out early, leaving many disappointed would-be participants without the ability to collect all three medals. You asked (begged in some cases) for us to find a way to make it happen and we are very pleased to let you know that we have a solution with the addition of the Fredericton Fall Classic. In its 31st year, the September 22nd Fredericton Fall Classic offers 5K, 10K or 21K distances and will make a great addition to the tri-city run.
By completing any distance at the Emera Marathon by the Sea (August 11), Scotiabank Fredericton Marathon (May 12) or the Fredericton Fall Classic (Sept 22) and Legs for Literacy (Oct 27th) you will be able to collect the most exciting medal of the 2013 running season.
Don't be disappointed again; be sure to register early!

  • May 20, 2013 - NEW FOR 2013 – ANNOUNCING A BOLD, NEW BRAND IDENTITY
The new symbol, in simple and elegant ways, is based on one that is well-entrenched in our culture – the visual of a “foot with wings” that is attributed to the Greek god Hermes, and represents fleetness and speed. We have taken this well-known symbol and given it a twist by replacing the expected visual of the wing with the pages of a book capturing the uniqueness of the race and the connection between a running race and literacy. The combination of “race and cause” generates a special positioning for the event and a unique branding opportunity to create a visual that can say much more than “just another marathon.” The logo also has a strong connection to the City of Moncton in its color scheme. Some of the key colors in the logo are the same as the Moncton city brand colors.
